November 10 - Meet the Editor and Publisher of ReadyMade MagazineHear how they built a magazine from zero to 100,000 in less than 5 years. Our guests will be Shoshanna Berger and Grace Hawthorne, the editor and publisher of ReadyMade magazine, a "Martha Stewart for twenty-somethings." Designed for do-it-yourselfers, the magazine is remarkable for its originality and sense of humor, much like the two entrepreneurs who started it. Each issue is jam-packed with advice on how to make stuff, ranging from creating tasty and easy recipes to how to start your own supper club or pour a concrete tabletop. Like many magazines, ReadyMade is a labor of love. Unlike many, it has attracted national attention for its fresh look and unique articles. The women behind the magazine practice what they preach, not only by living the do-it-yourself lifestyle, but also by creating the magazine together. One day, as Shoshana tells the story, she and a friend were watching Martha Stewart on television and her friend said, “How come no one’s doing this for us? Bingo! Come hear how these two beat the odds — they're up to issue 20 — and continue to build readership, advertising sales and enthusiastic followers. So when you say to yourself, “I can’t possibly. . .,” think again. Like Grace and Shoshana, you have to believe in the possibilities, grab hold of a vision, and just do it. |
